Rathcoole Community Centre Opens New Extension

Saturday 10th of September was the official opening of the new Extension to Rathcoole Community Centre. The opening was performed by local resident Louis Fitzgerald of the Fitzgerald Group and was also attended by TD’s Robert Dowds and Joanna Tuffy of Labour and Councillor Theresa Ridge of Fine Geal.

A large audience of Rathcoole residents young and old were treated to an afternoon of entertainment from some of the many groups who use the Centre facilities.

Special thanks are due to the team from the FAS Community Employment Scheme for their Trojan work in fitting out the new facilities. None of this would have been possible without the vision and ingenuity of Sean Reid, Centre Development Officer.

Women of Newcastle, Saggart and Rathcoole Get Pinked Out for Breast Cancer Awarness

Over 100 women from Newcastle to Rathcoole, Saggart and Brittas united in October in the name of breast cancer awareness. The event which saw the newly extended Rathcoole Community Centre all decked out in pink, was organised by local TD Minister Frances Fitzgerald in conjunction with the Marie Keating Foundation, to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“ I ran this campaign last year in Newcastle and felt it was really important to continue it into this year” - said Minister Frances Fitzgerald - “ I was great to see so many women turn out to support the event. The message was simple - cancer won’t wait, everything else can. We had expert advice on hand from the Marie Keating Foundations’ Breast Nurse, well known life coach Brian Colburt and RTE nutritionist Aveen Bannon who explained the importance of positive attitudes and healthy eating”
